Laurence "Larry" James Bathurst

Laurence James "Larry" Bathurst, age 62, of Greenville, died Thursday evening, November 23, 2017 at his home under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice.  The son of Richard Laurence & Elinor Rose (Bliss) Bathurst, he was born on March 15, 1955 in Mount Clemens.  After graduating high school, he earned a Bachelor's degree at Central Michigan University, where he was also enrolled in the Reserve Officers Training Corps. 

Following graduation he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve, served in the Michigan National Guard at the helicopter base in Grand Ledge, and had been a member of the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 in Greenville.  On May 22, 1976, at the First Congregational Church in Greenville, he married Charlane Kay "Char"  McKenzie and together they enjoyed over 41 years of marriage.

He had worked as a model maker in the engineering department at the former Electrolux Home Products, served as a volunteer firefighter with the Greenville Department of Public Safety for almost 25 years, and had formerly owned Three Seasons Campground.  He enjoyed league bowling.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Bathurst;  and a brother-in-law, Rusty Belcher.  Surviving are his wife, Char Bathurst;  a son, L. James & Lindsey Bathurst; two grandchildren, McKailey Bathurst and Colin-McClain Bathurst; his parents, Richard & Elinor Bathurst, all of Greenville;  a sister, Janice Belcher of Vidalia, Georgia;  siblings-in-law, Teresa McKenzie of Greenville, Bernard & Virg Hancock, Dave & Gretchen McKenzie, and Pat McKenzie, all of Lansing, and John McKenzie of Chelsea;  and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation is from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.  The Rev. Shantell Witker of Hearts Journey will officiate and military honors, jointly rendered by the U.S. Army and the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 Honor Guard, will conclude the ceremony.  Burial will take place privately at Spencer Mills Cemetery near Gowen.
