Bobbie Jean Slider

February 13, 1946 ~ August 13, 2019 (age 73)

Bobbie Jean Slider, age 73, of East Lansing, succumbed to heart disease after a long fight on Tuesday,  August 13, 2019 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing.  The daughter of Johnny Clyde & Gladys Jewel (Bobo) Pace, she was born on February 13, 1946 in Arab, Alabama.

Bobbie had an eighteen year career with Michigan State University.  Like many retired people, Bobbie found something that made her happy and gave her pride in quilt making.  The family wishes to thank Capital City Quilt Guild for their help, donations and support in the making of 672 quilts.  They were always there to help and it was much appreciated.  Her last year was tough, and she tried to go to the meetings.  With Bobbie's death, the Breslin Infusion Cancer Center has lost it's "First Quilt Lady" and the needle is now passed to her friend, Elaine Hewitt, as the second "Quilt Lady."

She will be missed by many.  Surviving are her husband of 45 years, James R. Slider, who will miss her twinkling eyes and dimpled smile; their daughter, Christina Stouffer, who like her mother had a hard start in life and it has smoothed out to produce two grandchildren:  Laura (who has a master's degree and is teaching in Denver), and Julia (who is working her way through a five year scholarship in mechanical and robotics engineering).

Her life, like many, had more than it's share of thorns.  Her beloved husband, James, pictures Bobbie walking in a wonderful garden with Toby (their Westie) and Same (the Siamese), with the Lord explaining, "If people who did wrong to you in life have recanted and received can't give them a knuckle sandwich!"  The discussion is on.

Bobbie preferred not to have a service and the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in her name.  To send a message of sympathy to the family, sign Bobbie's online guest book, or to share a favorite memory, please visit:
