Bonnie L. Dakin

December 7, 1946 ~ April 5, 2018 (age 71)

Bonnie L. Dakin, age 71, of Greenville, passed away Thursday evening, April 5, 2018 at her home under the loving care of her family and Spectrum Health Hospice.  The daughter of Francis E. & Hazel E. (Christian) Holderman, she was born on December 7, 1946.

After graduating high school, Bonnie attended the then Ferris State College and on December 17, 1966, in Belding, she married James E. Dakin.  Together they enjoyed 51 years of marriage, raised three children, and traveled together throughout the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean, as well as camping at Sandy Pines Resort.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Bonnie had also worked outside the home at The Grand Rapids Press, at Amway, and even ventured into the real estate field with her husband.  She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Belding, having served as treasurer, and later attended Shiloh Community Church and  the Chapel at Sandy Pines Resort.  She had a special gift of making young children and the elderly feel special and  will be long remembered by her family as their "adventurer"... climbing the highest heights and even parasailing when she was well into her 60's.  She also played both the piano and organ, but her greatest joy in life was found in time spent with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents;  a son, Chad M. Dakin on June 4, 2006;  a sister,  Darlene Sherd on June 7, 2006;  and two brothers, Gerald Holderman and Edward Holderman.

Surviving are her husband, Jim Dakin of Greenville;  their children, Scott Dakin of Greenville, and Darci Dakin of Marshall; five grandchildren, Zach Dakin, Cameron Face, Brandon Face, Tara Dakin, and Kaitlyn Face; a sister, Ann Harden of Florida;  siblings-in-law, Howard Dakin of Cedar Springs, Sam Sherd of Greenville, Maxine Dakin of Greenville, Carol Dakin of Greenville, Chris Dakin of Caledonia, and Phyllis Holderman-VanDyke of Arizona;  and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.  The Rev. Ken Harger, retired pastor of Shiloh Community Church, will officiate and burial will follow at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding.
