Jeffrey M. McCarty

August 30, 1960 ~ May 11, 2018 (age 57)

 

Jeffrey Michael McCarty, age 57, of Phoenix, Arizona, went to be with the Lord from his home on Friday morning, May 11, 2018 under the loving care of his family, friends, and Hospice of the Valley after a short battle with metastatic cancer.

The son of John William & Janann Mae (Grindeland) McCarty, he was born on August 30, 1960 in Decorah, Iowa, where in his youth he had been active in the Decorah Kilties, Boy Scouts and the Norski Hill along with his father and brothers.  He was a 1979 graduate of Decorah High School and earned his bachelors degree from Luther College where he also sang and toured with the Nordic Choir. 

In 1986 he moved to Phoenix where he spent his career in the food, beverage, and hospitality industry having worked as a sommelier at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort and finished his career as a portfolio manager with Quail Distributing.   

On July 20, 1991, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he married Barbara Joan Clarke and together they enjoyed 27 years of marriage, enjoyed traveling together, and were members of Northern Hills Community Church.  They were both involved in a number of ministries in the community, primarily helping children and the underprivileged. 

He was preceded in death by his father, John William McCarty of April 15, 1999;  and a half-brother, John William McCarty II.  Surviving are his wife, Barbara J. Clarke-McCarty of Phoenix, Arizona;  a daughter, Julie Ann & Brandon Lavoie of Brookfield, Wisconsin;  his mother, Janann McCarty of Decorah, Iowa;  his brothers, Dale & Joleen McCarty of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dan & Kimberly McCarty of Peoria, Arizona, and Lt. Commander Michael McCarty, serving with the U.S. Navy in Naples, Italy; a half-sister, Becky McCarty of Iowa;  his parents-in-law, Connie Dey of Greenville, Michigan, and John J. Clarke of Gowen, Michigan;  a sister-in-law, Julie & Dan Hyde of Gowen, Michigan;  and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Jeffrey’s life at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Northern Hills Community Church, 2740 E. Union Hills Drive, Phoenix, Arizona 85050.  Instead of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated either to the GoFundMe campaign to assist with medical expenses or to The American Cancer Society.
